How long does a massage treatment last?

The length of a massage varies. It can go anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. A chair massage generally lasts about 10 to 15 minutes and focuses basically on the back and shoulders. Table massages are a little different. A 30 minute table treatment is about the shortest one you’ll get. Generally, it is just enough to focus on a specific area, back and shoulders, neck and chest, or legs. A typical massage lasts for about 60 to 90 minutes and allows for greater relaxation. In this time the entire body can be worked on. A 120 minute massage is just about the longest there is. These allow the therapist to perform a full body treatment and also work out some very specific problem areas in depth. It also helps to give yourself time at the beginning and end of the massage to relax on your own.

Why do you ask health history questions?

The goal of massage therapy is to promote personal wellness. It is important for the therapist to know the health history in order to get a clear picture of where you are coming from and what your goals are. Also there are certain conditions that require certain changes be made to the massage. Some conditions are contraindicated altogether. Medications also play a role in the amount of work you can do in a certain area as well as the amount of pressure able to be used.
It is important to be honest and upfront about any relevant medical history. It is all for your benefit.
